Awesome asparagus

I love Spring not only are the days getting warmer and longer but it’s also time to indulge in one of my favourite vegetables; asparagus.  These gorgeous green spears are only available for a limited time usually from mid-May to end June so make the most of asparagus whilst you can. Buy British , it tastes so much better and doesn’t have an enormous carbon footprint like those varieties shipped in from Peru.

One serving of asparagus, roughly 6 spears will give you two-thirds of your daily requirements for folic acid which helps to keep your heart healthy. It is also an excellent source of vitamin K, crucial for blood clotting and wound healing.

Because it can be tricky to grow, asparagus has a larger price tag than other veggies so make it the star of your meal. It has a delicate flavour and only needs to be lightly cooked. For some simple ideas on how to eat your asparagus follow these links.
